Uttapam - Savory Vegan Pancakes

Uttapam is a South Indian breakfast pancake made with a lentil-based batter. Our plant-based egg replacer, Egg Free™, is the perfect base for this recipe!

Though Indians traditionally serve this dish for breakfast, it works just as wonderfully for brunch, lunch, or dinner.

Note: You can add more vegetables to this recipe if you so desire!


  • 1/3 cup Egg Free™

  • 1/3 cup water (or more, if wetter consistency desired)

  • Coconut oil (or oil of your choice)

  • 1 onion, diced

  • Fresh herbs (optional)


  1. Combine the Egg Free™ and water in a bowl and mix well.

  2. Heat oil in a pan and sauté the diced onion.

  3. Add the Egg Free™ mixture and fresh herbs if desired.

  4. Cook until bubbles form, then flip, and cook the other side until nicely browned.

  5. Enjoy right away!
